A tribute for Moms tag....

When I read this tag from Mommy rose I immediately grab it. I love this tag most specially because this is all about our mother. And who among us don't want to give tribute to our mother right? I had written a story and a tribute to my mama way back October  25, 2005 in my other blog.

But I decided to copy and paste it here so here it is.

To the most wonderful Woman.

There could be more happier for a daughter to come home seeing her mother welcoming her arrival. For a a warmth smile and a warmth hug of a mother is too meaningful that a daughter could'n't forget for the rest of her life.

  Today is the 6th year death anniversary of my beloved MAMA. A woman who bring me to this world, a woman full of strength to face the trials in life, a woman who loved her chidlren even to the point of sacrificing her ownself, a woman who believe and have faith in God, a good daughter and a faithful and loving wife to my late PAPA.

  When my father had his first stroke he couldn't back to worked my MAMA became the bread winner of the family (teacher). I saw her strength, courage, positive outlook in life, faith and trust in God, and her undying love to my PAPA. Their relationship grew stronger everyday that made me believe that is what makes my PAPA in just a month time he were able to regained his physical strength.

  As of this writing, to this second, minute and hour is when my mother surrender her life to her CREATOR. We admitted her at the hospital Oct 1. She told us that she felt pain at her back. She was ambulatory when we admitted her. I never thoughted that the next day will be our last day to talked together, to see her smile, to hear her voice, to feel her warm hands squeezing my hand, to bathed her, to change her clothes, to lay beside her. BEcause she had an attacked that made her put into coma. The doctor talked to me in his private office of what happened to my MAMA and the expectation for the next days to come.

  Hearing everything I was at a lost. I don't know what to do I couldn't let myself breakdown because I was the one manning everything. I had to stand amidst everything and I had to let myself more stronger. I cried a lot but I don't let my brother and sister see me. I had to put a facade that I am strong and I can handle everything.

  For almost a month, we stayed at the hospital she suffered several attacked that it reached to the point that I couldn't bear to see her pain. Deep inside I screamed the word MAMA dont leave as this soon. I knew as a daughter and mother we have this connection that only us we knew. Because I saw her tears streaming down her face. It was very painful to me seeing her suffer her like that. But I saw her courage and hope that somehow she will regain her physical strength. At her bedside, I talked to her and let her hear our prayer as she managed to communicate me through a movement of her eyebrows. Seeing that make me feel soooooo happy.

  Until the time that the doctor told me again that there is no hope for her to live. And that I WILL CHOSE THE DAY WHEN THEY WILL TAKE ALL THOSE TUBES ATTACHED TO HER. It struck me the most because it will be a goodbye to MAMA. And it will only take a miracle and Gods will if she will live without all those tubes. Still I did hope and pray that somehow God will make a miracle to my beloved MAMA.

  Today, on this very day at quarter to 9:00 am, the doctor took out the tubes and all the aparatus that was attached to her body. I was there beside her, my brother, my sister, my neice and some relatives. I was the one standing just across the doctor, looking at my MAMA. I saw her frail body. I squeeze her hand remembering that those hands nurtured us lead us as we are today. I saw her feet and remember how those feet walked everyday going to and from work. I caress her head and I remember that those gray hairs is where we have a good time. Plucking her gray hair makes me frown because I dont want to do it and she will bribe me then. If only I could go back the time.

  When the doctor pull all the tubes and she was left alone breathing without any help. I feel her breathing deteriorate. And my mind rushed back in the past. All those memories just flash one my one in my mind. As I was looking at her caressing her I utter a words " I WILL LET YOU GO MAMA I WILL LET YOU GO YOU WILL MEET PAPA SOON" Tears flowed from my eyes it was so painful seeing her leave so soon. It was too painful for me. I was silent I just let memories keep on flashing in my mind. I stared at her body so frail yet it marks all the strength of a woman. I grieve until this time. I know it is a lifetime healing of losing a wonderful woman in my life. How I wish she is still with us. How I wish ...............

  For you my MAMA I will always remember you. As long as I live,  you're the GREATEST WOMAN I EVER HAD IN THIS WORLD. I may never say many times this words " I LOVE YOU " when you were still alive but I DID, I DO,  AND I ALWAYS WILL TILL THE end of my borrowed life.

It is sunny today!!

Yesterday was Friday, the first Friday of the Lenten season. And since it is Friday I choose to abstained from opening my laptop. That is a lot of sacrificed huh!! A computer addict like me I thought I can't do it but I did.

Last night at 7pm we went to church and attended the Station of the Cross. I was kind of surprised because not too many people were there. I don't know if it is because of the weather since last night was cold and windy or is it because people are not into other activites in the church except attending the mass every Sunday. Way back in the Philippines when it is Lent it also mean summer is here.  Every Friday the whole family will go to the church and do pray the Station of the Cross. I remember I saw many of my classmates and neighbors were there doing the same thing as we do with their families too. That time I found it very cool and interesting and not boring. I think our way in observing the Lent is a little different than here.  Anyway, there  are more Fridays to come and observe about how the people here observe their lenten season will keep updated.

Ash Wednesday

~~It's Ash Wednesday today the beginning of Lenten season. I woke up almost 8am and the mass at our parish church begins at 9:00am.  I asked hubby if we could go to another church since they have a mass there at 12 midnoon, so we did went to St. Joseph church.

~~After church we went home and prepare for late lunch. Hubby told me he is thinking of making a scrambled egg geezzz I told him right away how do you know what I am thinking! It does happened to us all the time, we think the same thing and we ended up laughing because of that. So I make scrambled egg with spinach it is my first time to make this one and it does taste good and healthier too.

~~ At 3:03 pm I took a nap and woke up 4:48pm that was a long nap I guess. The weather is not too cold the snow is melting and we had slight rain too. I hope tomorrow we have a sunny day so I could go out and enjoy the sun, fingers crossed. Goodnight everyday! God bless yah all!

Marriage Proposal? I do....

I was tagged! Thanks for tagging me again. I remember I had written somewhere in my other blog  about how hubby ask me to marry him and handed me the ring. So I checked it this morning and found it, here is the story:

Written May 16, 2008

Today, is the 5th year in which my loving husband and I meet for the very first time in Ninoy International Airport after 2 years of chatting at the net. This day signifies a lot to us in the sense that my husband handed me a single long stemmed PINK ROSE with the ring hanging on it. Yup, he proposes me right inside the hotel room with a single stemmed pink rose!! But that was not the real story of it all. The fact is that, when he gave me the single stemmed pink rose, I recall that very moment that 10 years ago, I prayed and even had a novena to St. Joseph that I would meet a man who will become my husband. Added to that I specifically said in my prayers that this man will give me a SINGLE PINK ROSE!! And that would be the sign that he will become my husband. And voila this man came to my life after 10 long years!! That is why for 5 years now we consider this day as one of our anniversaries and we are thankful that we did make this far from a single pink rose to a very blissful married life. Lesson learned, be specific in our prayers God will give what we need and wants in HIS time. Cheers!!

Panuhot

~~~Way back 2005 the year after I arrived here in MI I was so excited to play with snow. But that winter between 2004-2005 we hardly don’t have that much of snow. It was almost spring time when it snows so hard like it almost reached to my butt. Hubby asked me if I like to play outside since that was my first time to see a lotttt of snow. So I did, I put on the boots and the suit pants and all kinds of clothing that I think of just to be warm while playing. But hubby told me that the kind of snow that we had at that time is not good for making snowman. What I did is just play around and I even didn’t do angel2x because the snow is a little bit deep. That time I am imagining I was at the beach playing with the waves so I make those diving2x moment hahaha. After playing I went inside the house cleaned up and almost immediately I feel intensed pain in my stomach. It was too painful I ran to the bathroom then I found out that I was bleeding. The next few hours, which I can’t count my fingers how many times I went to the bathroom I was bleeding profusely and my lower abdomen is so painful. Thankfully I was able to sleep that night but the next day we went to an ob-gyne and the doctor checked me up. I thought I had a miscarriage but the result was negative. The whole month I did bleed I’d put a sanitary napkin on me the whole time because sometimes the blood is too much sometimes it is just a spotting and pain goes with it too.
Now, my theory to what happened to me at that time is that I had the what we call “PANUHOT”, too much cold my body was shocked eh I was 38 at that time medyo tigolz na din hehe. That is why now I have this kind of second thought or di ba kaya phobia na ito of deep snow specially when it is too3x cold. Nobody even my husband could take me out specially when it is snowing hard. Kahit pa sabihin ni hubby na we are going to a restaurant to eat or go to the mall or wherever I just decline the offer what the heck. I even cry if hubby will become a bugger because he wanted me to go with him and I said no! Geez I’ll have the biggest fit in the whole wide world hubby couldn’t believe it. Mantakin mong makaranas nang one month of bleeding aba feeling ko noon wala na akong dugo! And the pain sus me grabe di ko ma imagine parang the ovary goes with it. And all the medicine that I took ang dami plus meron pang ilagay inside the v----- ewwwwww!!
Coco Jam
Went to church today. The weather is still cold and from time to time it snows. I am so done with this wintry weather I wanted to wear shorts and sleeveless shirts and not the heavy coat, boots, and heavy jacket. After the mass, hubby asked me if I like to lunch to a chinese buffet but I said no I wanted to stay home and be warm inside the comfort of our home.
We were at home in time our stomach is asking for food. Early this morning I cooked another stir fry which consist of pork, potatoes, carrots and cabbage. We ate stir-fry for our lunch and our dessert is this coco jam with the new found bread sticks that I like. It does taste so yummy good thing it doesn't spoil because I brought this from the Philippines last year.
We ate at the table together...
Today is my step-daughters birthday and we are supposed to go to Bavarian Inn, Frankenmuth for a dinner with the family but the weather was so nasty it was snowing like no stopping. And while we are checking the weather we heard that in I-94 50 cars filed up!! That is not a good sign so hubby called everyone postponing the birthday dinner.
Then I was listening to a catholic radio station this morning and it so happened that the guest speaker is a Filipino priest Fr. Joe Patalinghug (is the family name rings so pinoy?). They were talking about what is the family are doing now a days. And they are commenting about many families now that don’t ate at the table together because parents are busy and so the kids.
I remember when I was a kid (even until now) we always do ate around the table as a family. I remember my father told us and it was a rule that before lunch and dinner time we should be at home, that means before 12 noon and 6 pm. If we came late there is always a consequences so as a kid we played like there is no tomorrow but if we hear the whistle of my mama or papa it is about time to say bye bye to friends. And we are so obedient at those times we knew that if we don’t abide the rules we will be spanked or reprimanded and we don’t like that either. Around the table my father will asked us about what is new and what happened to our day. We exchanged stories of the happenings for the day and father and mother will tell us stories and the things that happened to their day too. We were like that even until my parents are gone.
When I got here in US I noticed (through my husbands relatives) that they don’t ate around the table like what we used to do back in the Philippines. Kahit isda lang or bagoong ang ulam pero we are together around the table. They alternately ate or none at all. It was kind of weird to me because I am not used to that setting. I read in yahoo or aol about parenting and some forums that parents are complaining or having problems with their children specially when children reach in their teens. Back in Philippines even if we are teenager or young adult though we are not open to our parents about personal stuff but parents knew about what we do and where we go and who we go with. My parents got all the information we had on that day around the table while we are eating. And eating around the table is like a gathering that is not supposed to just be like ordinary it should be like everybody should look forward to.
Dito sa munting bahay namin kahit kami lang dalawa nang asawa ko I see to it that we eat together. It maybe a cereal or lugaw or beef steak or bagoong we seat around the table and enjoy and just have fun while eating. Life is just so simple we should not complicate it. Happy weekend!
My niece birthday today..
~~~I love my nieces and nephew they are my babies. Last year I was in Pinas we were in the mall when I stumbled my classmate way back high school. She was a teacher in a public school in our hometown and we are kind of buddies in high school. So when she saw me that karay2x ko apat na kabataan she has this big grin and in a high tone called my name "mary kimmmmmmmm". Then, kumustahan to the max kahit people around couldn't passed by kasi nakaharang na kami sa daan. She was just bubbling and telling me ang laki na nang mga anak ko at pinabe-bless pa lahat hehehe. I saw at the corner of my eye that everytime she said "anak" to any of my nieces and nephew they looked at me kind of happy and ecstatic because I just agree and didn't bother to tell her "no they are my pamangkins" they were kind of surprised I didn't dare to correct her. So after all the kumustahan and exchanging cellphone numbers we bid goodbyes. Then, I invited my pamangkins to ate in Chowking and they all agreed without further ado hehe. After ordering the stuff we like we all seated and waited for the food to be serve. Then I opened up what happened a minutes ago. I told them I saw their faces lighted up everytime my friend called them my anak and I didn't corrected her. I told them because that is what they are to me, they may not be my biological anak but they are given to me by God and they come from my heart. Oh men they were giggling and just so happy I feel they are so proud of themselves God can gave babies from the heart hehe, happy faces I have seen the whole time we are at the mall and I knew that my words will instill in their minds forever and that simple talk we had. And today is Mary Grace 7th birthday! I am so happy she will be in grade one this coming June. My prayers to all my nieces and nephew is to have a good health, protected from any harm, danger and evil minds. And that so I pray everytime of the day.

Very good gitun-an na ug panghugas ug plato!

Nagpa-cute with matching payong.Practice ug karate hehe.

~~~~ I got an email from my oldest niece few minutes ago with pictures of Mary Grace 7th birthday party at school. Jollibee was there I guess they had fun.
~~~~ Last Wednesday, hubby and me went to St. Joseph Hospital to visit my sister in law. She was rushed to the hospital the night before because her blood pressure was too high and she felt a tingling feeling on her fingers. When we got there we found out that she was still in the emergencry room, we arrived in her room while she was talking to her doctor. Her doctors told her that she would undergo some test and she don't like it specially the CT-scan since she felt she became claustrophobic hehe. We told her to just pray it is only a test. We stayed at the hospital until 6:00 pm and went home.

~~~~ Yesterday, after lunch, household chores and updating my blog (thanks to taggging) we went to Lapeer to visit my husbands uncle. He is kind of weak and he is pushing 90 years old. While we were at his house he talked to my hubby and I talked to his wife Aunt Mary. We stayed their for almost 6 hours. So when we got home I was too sleepy I slept immediately.
~~~~ But today after my updating here I had to continue my labadami labango moment. Will be back and visit my friends online. Happy Friday to all!!

My Pinakbet was here.

Talking about.....

Last February 14 was our 5th valentines day together as husband and wife. Along through the years hubby spend some money to buy me jewelries, flowers, chocolates and dining out. The last gift that hubby gave me on valentines day is this bling2x
And a Dooney and Burke purse:
Which is not that too cheap. But Valentines just don't happened in one day but everyday. Together we have to maintain the spark and fun for our relationship going. This year we decided to stay at home and spend the night with a candle light dinner. Prior that night we went to Meijers and look for a nice valentines card. We gave each others valentines card, read and kissed each other and put it back hahahaha! We were like lovey dovey inside that supermarket people are looking at us envious hahaha! It was fun, it makes both of us going and lively. Again hubby looked around and found this beautiful flowers it cost $30 I told him honey "I need cash" and here we go again we chuckled ang giggled with my antics. In the end of our trip to the supermarket he bought the gift for me and here it is:

YES!! It is a tootsie roll haha. What are you thinking guys and gals?? Sports car? House? Nope3x. Valentines day is supposed to be fun and not bankrupting the pocket of your hubby hahaha. But there is a reason why hubby thought of giving me a bag of tootsie roll I will share the story soon here on my blog. I found out it doesn't take a lot of money to spend just to make your husband happy and the relationships spark and going it only requires creativity (wink). Here are some of the pictures that I took during our dinner.
Before the prayer pose muna.Left over.My sweet nook.

It's a snowy Valentines day!!

Happy Valentines day to all my friends and relatives who visited me here I do appreciate your coming. The other day I was juggling if we will dine out as we used to do for the past 4 years. And our experienced is not too nice because we have to wait for an available seat. One time we were in this restaurant at 5:30 pm and we were seated at 7:30 pm. One time too we drove around but couldn't found a restaurant without people waiting outside the restaurant to get in. So we ended up at a chinese restaurant which is also full of people but we manage to get a seat immediately. Today we are going to stay home and with my prowess in cooking hubby would gonna love it. Already done is my BIKO and wrapping the lumpia. I had to clean the house and put some candles around to make the ambience more tiltillating hehehe!! And oh by the way, hubby suggested if we can wear our birthday suit at our dinner tonight hahaha. For sure kabagin (panuhoton) ako nyan! And as I promise I will reveal the thing that I requested to have today. Got to go will update later.

Hay life..

I got up this morning at 5:30 am. It is very early for me since I usually woke up at 10:00 am. AFter my morning ritual I couldn't make myself go back to bed I was fired up so I ended up in the kitchen tinkering around. Then it dawned on me I had to cooked "biko"so I started to looked at the pantry for the glutenous rice. That moment, I didn't dare to looked a canned coconut milk. I washed the glutenous rice and put it in the rice cooker. The glutenous rice was almost done when I started to looked for a canned coconut milk but I was so surprised I don't have one!! argh! I got so frustrated after rummaging the pantry. So I ended up eating the cooked glutenous rice with condensed milk geez! Right after the "biko" event I made spring rolls for tomorrow's stay at home dinner for me and hubby. But what happened to my "biko" is still lurking in my mind. I told hubby that I need a canned coconut milk to finished my biko so off we go to the grocery store hehe. Hayyyy life I wish this is Pinas that I could only asked my "angel" to buy a fresh grated coconut for me. But this is America anything that we lacked in our kitchen we have to drive and get it somewhere and not ask the neighbors or "angel" just like in Pinas hehe.

Update: We went to Meijers and do our groceries. Immediately went to the international section where the coconut milk is. Right now I am making my latik for the biko. Got to go happy Friday the 13th. God bless!!

Dine out or stay home

Until today I am still juggling if we are going to dine out or stay home this coming Valentines day. In my mind, if in case we are going to stay home, then I have to cook and have a candle light dinner in the comfort of our home. But I am also ready on what I am going to prepare that day. My menu whould be crab and corn soup, pork steak, escabeche, spring rolls and fried shrimp and of course bread for hubby and rice for me. So how is that for a menu. While if we gonna dine out my choice of restaurant to go is Blind fish where they have 2 pounds of crab legs (my favorite) and a filet mignon or a mahi2x fish with crab sauce on top. What ever will be my decision that day at least I am ready to cook and the ingredients are ready. I will let everybody know what is my request for my valentines gift. Abangan!

Truck for Sale

A sixteen year-old boy came home with a new Chevrolet Avalanche and his parents began to yell and scream, 'Where did you get that truck???!!!' He calmly told them, 'I bought it today.'

'With what money?' demanded his parents. They knew what a Chevrolet Avalanche cost.

'Well,' said the boy, 'this one cost me just fifteen dollars.' So the parents began to yell even louder. 'Who would sell a truck like that for fifteen dollars?' they said.

'It was the lady up the street,' said the boy. I don't know her name - they just moved in. She saw me ride past on my bike and asked me if I wanted to buy a Chevrolet Avalanche for fifteen dollars.'

'Oh my Goodness!,' moaned the mother, 'she must be a child abuser. Who knows what she will do next? John, you go right up there and see what's going on.' So the boy's father walked up the street to the house where the lady lived and found her out in the yard calmly planting petunias!

He introduced himself as the father of the boy to whom she had sold a new Chevrolet Avalanche for fifteen dollars and demanded to know why she did it.

'Well,' she said, 'this morning I got a phone call from my husband. (I thought he was on a business trip, but learned from a friend he had ran off to Hawaii with his mistress and really doesn't intend to come back).

He claimed he was stranded and needed cash, and asked me to sell his new Chevrolet Avalanche and send him the money.

So I did.'

(Are women good or what?)
The wife has the last laugh!!

Klasmeyts...

I came online late this afternoon at my yahoo messenger and found out right away that two of my classmates way back early 1980's are online. (Yes, I graduated high school 1982's and the rest is history hehe.) Anyhow, one of my classmate is in Canada and one is in Saudi Arabia we had  a very good chat we laugh a lot and remembering all the high school life makes us wanting to go back to that stage. But past is past and the good thing is that we had a good high school life. Some of the topic that we shared is how many kids they've got wahhhhh I don't have kids. But I told them I have 3 neices and 1 nephew that I took care since they were born. And I marry late too (hehe alibi). It made me  happy too when classmates/batchmates shared about their family life, how old are their kids, some classmates of mine already had a son or daughter who are in college. And some of  them are already divorce, separated or widow. But the sad part of our sharing is remembering some of our classmates/batchmates who passed away. Hayyy ganyan talaga ang buhay but life has to go on. Remembering those time feels me good and grateful that I could say thank you so much for a wonderful awesome high school life. This coming December 2009 will be our 27 high school reunion and geezz I am getting old!!

6 Weird things about me..

I received this tag from Clare --- Thank you for the thought I enjoy tagging.

RULES: People who get tagged need to write a blog post of 6 things about them as well as state this rule clearly. In the end you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names. Don't forget to leave a comment that ' you're tagged ' in their comments and tell them to read your blog.

I don't know if people find it weird because hubby said it is not but for me it is weird. Anyhow here is my share of weirdness.

1. Do I get angry? --- I have several stages in getting angry lol. The least is I go yapping. Then when I'm  still angry my head ache. When I am still angry my eyes started to squint. If I am still angry I squeeze my face that is the signal not to be close to me because everything follows. Like what ever I get hold on to I will throw at you . Then I keep quiet. Isn’t it weird?? LOL! My hubby can vouch for that.
2. Going to sleep. --- You know when I am very sleepy because I keep quiet and I twirl my hair.

3. Driving --- Put me behind the wheel and I started to get sleepy hahaha. I am not intending to scare anyone specially to my soon to be passengers hehe.
4. Thinking --- When I am trying to think something very important I started to tap my fingers on the table or any hard object.
And according to my hubby:
5. I showered every time we leave the house.

6. I whine like a little kid.
Grabe no burot gud ang sip-on sa kaka-whine.

Blogs are good places to vent and to talk to others about problems but I thought we could use a positive tag to talk about our better half and since Valentine's Day is fast approaching, I’m creating this tag dedicated to our hubby.
When I hopped over to married life its like everyone is cheating and separating....that makes me feel like Im the only one! I know it's not right to dwell on the things you don't like about your spouse, so I am posting the question.... What made you fall in love with your husband? Was it something he did/does for you? Or is there something about him that you love?

Where do I start?

I fall for him as the days go by because he is what he is.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have known my LH for almost 8 years and married to him for almost 5 years. From the first time I meet him online and until now I haven’t seen him change not a single bit. He is true to his words and action and that makes me feel so thankful and blessed.
`````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
He is the answer of my prayer.
`````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
He told me over and over again that his goal in life is to make me happy. And I am always speechless every time he reminded me that. Because here is the man that is the answer of my prayer who love me that much what could I ask for.
`````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
He is a great husband and the perfect man for me. He balances me with all my craziness.
`````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
He always had a ready smile and easy to laugh with all my clownishness.
He loves to cook for me I am his baby.
`````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````I
I love it when every night before we go to sleep we talked and read the bible and shared what is the inspiration that came to us from the Holy Spirit.
````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````````
I loved it when we got to Sunday mass together even if he is not a baptized Catholic. He never criticized me but willingly go with me.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For me he is the handsomest man in the world lol. And I like to kiss his armpit that makes him chuckle and giggles and I love doing it to him.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I could go on and on but that is what I could share for now. God bless!

The Power of Okra

After I read this email from a friend I had a smile on my face and why is that because it was time for me to steam the okra. You see it's been almost a year now that I am steaming Okra every morning. I introduced Okra to hubby because I knew and I remember that Okra does give nutrients to our system and I am right. What makes me happy because hubby likes it too. I know that not many people likes okra because of being slimy when it is cooked but hubby told me that he doesn't care as long it gives nutrients to our body. And oh by the way, hubby dip his okra to an apple cider vinegar while I dip my okra to a cane vinegar.

The Power of Okra
A man has been suffering from constipation for the past 20 years and recently from acid reflux. He didn't realize that the treatment could be so simple --OKRA! He started eating okra within the last two months and since then has never taken medication again. All he did was consume six pieces of OKRA everyday. He's now regular and his blood sugar has dropped from 135 to 98, with his cholesterol and acid reflux also under control.

Here are some facts on okra (from the research of Ms. Sylvia Zook, PH.D(nutrition), University of Illinois .

Okra is a powerhouse of valuable nutrients, nearly half of which is soluble fiber in the form of gums and pectins. Soluble fiber helps to lower serum cholesterol, reducing the risk of heart disease. The other half is insoluble fiber which helps to keep the intestinal tract healthy, decreasing the risk of some forms of cancer, especially colo-rectal cancer. Nearly 10% of there commended levels of vitamin B6 and folic acid is also present in a half cup of cooked okra.
Okra is a rich source of many nutrients, including fiber, vitamin B6 and folic acid. He got the following numbers from the University of Illinois ExtensionOkra Page . Please check there for more details.
Okra Nutrition (half-cup cooked okra)* Calories = 25* Dietary Fiber = 2 grams* Protein = 1.5 grams* Carbohydrates = 5.8 grams* Vitamin A = 460 IU* Vitamin C = 13 mg* Folic acid = 36.5 micrograms* Calcium = 50 mg* Iron = 0.4 mg* Potassium = 256 mg* Magnesium = 46 mg

These numbers should be used as a guideline only, and if you are on a medically-restricted diet please consult your physician and/or dietician.
Ms Sylvia W. Zook, Ph.D. (Nutritionist) has very kindly provided the following thought-provoking comments on the many benefits of this versatile vegetable. They are well worth reading.

1. The superior fiber found in okra helps to stabilize blood sugar as it curbs the rate at which sugar is absorbed from the intestinal tract.

2. Okra's mucilage not only binds cholesterol but bile acid carrying toxins dumped into it by the filtering liver. But it doesn't stop there.

3. Many alternative health practitioners believe all disease begins in the colon. The okra fiber, absorbing water and ensuring bulk in stools, helps prevent constipation.

Fiber in general is helpful for this but okra is one of the best, along with ground flax seed and psyllium. Unlike harsh wheat bran, which can irritate or injure the intestinal tract, okra's mucilage soothes, and okra facilitates elimination more comfortably by its slippery characteristic many people abhor. n other words, this incredibly valuable vegetable not only binds excess cholesterol and toxins (in bile acids) which cause numerous health problems, if not evacuated, but also assures their easy passage from the body.
The veggie is completely non-toxic, non-habit forming (except for the many who greatly enjoy eating it), has no adverse side effects, is full of nutrients,and is economically within reach of most.

4. Further contributing to the health of the intestinal tract, okra fiber (as well as flax and psyllium) has no equal among fibers for feeding the good bacteria (probiotics) .

5. To retain most of okra's nutrients and self-digesting enzymes, it should be cooked as little as possible, e.g. with low heat or lightly steamed. Some eat it raw.

Again, watching my backyard birds this morning. And as I was watching a small cutie pie Bluebird passed the window. I grabbed my camera and ...
