Red Barn

I find it hard to do drive by shooting. I also don't like to stop somebody's property and take a photo of their property I might be sued lol!! It is okey I think if I'll do it in the country side like abandoned/ old barns. But if I see a house close by I hesitate to get close to the property ^_^ What about you fellow photographers/photobloggers what can you say about my concern? What do you often do in taking photos like this?

I try to be discreet when taking personal property photos. You had the right idea, far enough away to avoid any suspicion.A fine capture!

Barns in red seem so perfect, the shape and color a classic. This particular barn with the gambrel style roof and sitting on top of the grassy hill is stunng, a classic beauty!

When I saw the blurry green in the thumbnail photo, I thought it might be an image shot from a moving vehicle! ;-) It's a great-looking barn, isn't it?

I take a lot of drive-bys when there is not shoulder on the roads, or if we are trying to get somewhere by a certain time....I don't go on people's property unless I ask...but as far as I know, it is a free country and if you are on a public road, and something is in plain view, you can take a photo of it....

I much prefer being able to stop to take a photo as you can get a much better shot. If that's not possible I'll take a drive-by, and some of those actually turn out pretty good. I understand wanting to respect someone's property, but if you are shooting from the road I don't think there's a problem. Going on their property to do so is different, and you should have their permission to do that.

I am amazed that Americans would be so fuzzy about anybody taking a photo of their house. They probably think that the photographer is actually casing their house for a possible crime. Your photo shots are always professionally done. You already developed that expertise in professional photography. Thanks for the post. God bless you always.

I do a lot of my photos driving by. I never go on peoples property unless I ask. If it's abandoned I will get closer. I also do get out and take shots from the road.

When I'm out & spot an old barn & want to take its picture, I look to see if anyone is around... if not, I shoot away, but if someone IS on the property or even nearby, I'll wait & try to catch it on my way back or another day. I've gotten busted before & people are real nice about it... I just tell them that I love old barns & I wanted a pic of theirs & nobody has been hostile about it... one man told me to take all the pics I could because he was tearing his old barn down... I hated to hear that cuz it was a really cool old barn!!! =)

Thanks for joining!

Thank you for the advice it's all noted. Yes Mel sometimes people are fuzzy about it but as long as you are in the public road and not stepping on their private property you are okey lol!

Here in Canada it's perfectly legal to take photos from the road. :)

Looks like you did a "drive by (barn) shooting!"
Sometimes I'm nervous to stop for fear of the farm dogs running around.....

My Ruby Tuesday post, hope you can come and visit.

Well, that's the nice thing about out in the country, usually no one is around to take notice or mind. But I am a little shy with my camera, so I probably would keep going if someone was out!

Two of those windows look really modern. I am like you. I will not get right up on a piece of property to take a picture. Lots of time I just shoot from my car as I am pulled off the side of the road. I have also been known to knock on the front door and ask permission to take pictures...and have never been told NO. People are usually very nice when you ask. Nice barn.

I always try to be discreet when photographing and just zoom in. Of course stay on the public road.

Great barn photo. :-)

I try to be discreet as well, but I'm a photographer, and photographers can't be shy. If I were needing to get too close, I'd ask permission. I think documenting old buildings is important.

I was too late to link to my photo, but it can be seen at my blog.
