Yellow Dahlia

                                                                     My Dahlia
My first ever to plant Dahlia's and I didn't know that if it's already in fall I have to dig the root or tuber for me to plant next year. Though there are two options, to leave it in winter but covered it with a thick mulch or to dig it up and store in cool dry place. I decided I'd rather leave it in the ground and covered it with a lot of dried leaves, then covered it again with plastic then covered it with dry leaves. That is my own experiment if next year it will grow back it's a success ^_^. If it's not then I am going to buy more Dahlia's because this flowers are just pretty. My yellow Dahlia is huge like giant size while the red dahlia which is at the right side is short and the flower is small. ^_^

This is a lovely flower, in bloom and leaving a nice shadow, too. I hope the grand experiment works, but if the bulb doesn't freeze it will reappear!

Lovely dahlia. They make a plastic with holes in it that will regulate the moisture. Good luck with your experiment.

Really cool Shadow Shot. I too like Dahlias and bought a beauty earlier this summer, keeping it in it's pot. All the flowers are gone now, so I stuck it in the dirt under a pine tree...It has a few new buds on it now. I'm hoping it will make it through the winter also.

The bulbs may rot underground in wintertime, don't worry. They will come alive again at springtime.

Don't you know that you can plant them from the stem? Don't use the young branch though. I did that at home.

Dahlias had been in my collection too. Easy to grow ... one of those you plant and forget.

Looks like an elder and child standing together. Red and yellow are my favorite combination. Not sure how to handle these for next year. I'm planting tulip bulbs for Spring, but not until September. Good stuff.

Peace.

Love Dahlias....normally I plant them every year - didn't do it this year! Hoping your experiment works....let us know if it does - that way I would always have them & not forget to plant them!! Have a lovely weekend!

I vote for option #1 as I have them too and just leave them be. Except to offer them protection (via mulch) from the cold of winter.
