Detroit Institute of Arts

Last week, it's my first time to visit a museum (shy). Yup it's my first. I've been wanting to visit museum big or small but hubby doesn't have time, lol. Well last week was our 7th wedding anniversary and you know what I asked him? To bring me to Detroit Institute of Arts to see Rembrandt and the face of Jesus. So off we go, and found out it's packed with people and they said that Rembrandt tickets are sold, so we choose to see the other exhibits and different galleries. And it was the best too. Thankfully, they allow photography to some exhibits (but not to other galleries) and no flash. I didn't mind it at all as long as I can get some of the photos. To those who visit all the time, do you feel like trying to get closer to the "thing" and has the urge to touch it, geezzz it almost happened to me, gush these precious items are just so awesome!! I can't wait to go back to DIA next week. ^_^

Ain't this beautiful painting?

The photo on the right is a jewelry table or box, the guide didn't it open it of course nobody could touch it bu the story is that it came from France, then to Russia because a mother bought it for her daughter but then when communism broke out it was sold and Mrs. Dodge bought it. They call it from France, to Russia to Detroit ^_^  The photo on the upper left are some ornate tables for princesses and on the bottom part are tea cups, tea pot etc. Ain't that so pretty. If I have those I am not going to use it lol!

What a treat that must have been. I always enjoy a visit to the Domestic Arts part of a museum, and to the costume displays - so interesting to see how people lived in the past.

What a coincidence - the link before yours on Mosaic Monday is also about a visit to this museum exhibition.

I would love to go there some day.

Thanks for showing these beautiful art works to us...it's hard to imagine the stories behind each one of these...don't you know that mother was heartbroken to see her beautiful gift to her daughter sacrificed due to the evil spread by communism...Have a beautiful week!!!

The paintings seem to be impressionist, the ceramics looking so frail, yet so strong in their beauty. Museums so often give us a glimpse of the past and far away places. Maybe we can learn a few new things of the past...Nicely captured!
