Contrast

As we all know the south part of the Philippines was hit by a calamity. Two cities were directly hit and one of my close friend died. In my city they also have their share of flood. Thankfully, according to my cousin the city council had constructed this diverse river (started few years ago) because if it was not the city would also have a disaster on their own. Here is the contrast of what happened last December 17, 2011.

This is the water that you can see in an ordinary day like this. Kids will swim here, some women will do their laundry here too.

Here is how fast and deep and muddy the water was last December 17.

I've been reading and hearing about the severe flooding in the Philippines. The death toll keeps rising. The difference in your pictures is amazing.

I'm sorry for your loss. Flood control is so important as seen here, and unfortunately that's an area my city skimps on. One of these years we'll have one of our famous intense thunderstorms just stay still and dump 20cm of rain in a few hours, and the city is going to learn a nasty lesson.
